Summer months used to be a lot quieter on the music scene around Denton. Now, we have many standard gigs around town as guests playing with regular bands, such as Jefferey Barnes bringing fellow reed-man David Lee Schloss to sit in with Mr Joe Jazz Band and Le Not So Hot Klub du Denton for the First Tuesday Celebration at Sweetwater Grill &Tavern, 115 S. Elm St. last night. Actually, the performance was top-notch for both the Dixieland and the Gypsy Jazz sets. (A special nod to C. A. Bell playing trumpet.) The crowd was very appreciative – a great night on the patio.

Wednesday, July 8:

• Traditional Celtic music with County Rexford at the Abbey Inn, 101 W Hickory St., from 7:30 to 9:45 pm – no cover
• Jazz Night with the DenTONES at Hoochies Denton, 214 East Hickory Street, 7-9 pm.
• Jeffry Eckels presents Jazz: A Vocal Showcase with Hale Baskin, at The Whitehouse (corner of Scripture and Bryan) from 8 to 10:30 pm – no cover. This week, Hale is filling in the “2nd Wednesday Wild Card Spot” on The Whitehouse calendar. Jeff is off playing with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in Vail, CO, so, this Wednesday, Hale will supply her own incredible cast of band members.
• Sky Window + Funky Knuckles, progressive jazz fusion, at Harvest House, 331 E Hickory, 8-11 pm – FREE. This is an extension of the existing Thursday Night Music program. The summer concerts will be from 8 to 9 (as opposed to the Spring and Fall concerts which occur from 7 to 9pm).  The performances are primarily, but not exclusively, jazz and feature students and faculty from the UNT College of Music. Check the UNTSQ website or Facebook for updated information about performers. Admission:  Free

• Guru Dhaneswar Swain’s Percussion Ensemble at UNT Winspear Hall at 8 pm – $5 general admission, students – free.

• Chris Watson Band at Dan’s Silverleaf, 103 Industrial, at 9:00 pm – $10
• Spenser Liszt & His Disciples + Premium + Planet Mars at Andy’s Bar, 122 N Locust St., 8 pm-1:30 am. Spenser Liszt brings a fresh perspective to Denton with a grand feast of Jazz, Experimental, Mixed Beats, Underground Hip-Hop, Improvisation, Groove, Jam, Modern Jazz, and Classical..

• UNT Jazz Combo Camp Faculty Concert in Voertman Hall at 7 pm – FREE
• Paul Slavens & Friends at Dan’s Silverleaf, 103 Industrial, at 8 pm – FREE
• Late Night Jazz with Sky Window at the Greenhouse Restaurant, 600 N. Locust, from 10 pm to midnight – FREE

Tuesday, July 14:
